One of the biggest challenges my homeschool clients face is how to navigate the high school requirements, college preparation, and the college application process. Despite the growing number of homeschool students, there is still a lack of guidance and structure for those who want to attend a traditional 4-year college or university.
As my client, you and your student, will work with me in focused sessions and other correspondence to ensure that they are ready for college when it comes to both their academics and the supporting paperwork. I offer an array of customizable services so you can navigate your homeschool high school experience with confidence.
What can you expect as a parent?
Depending upon the level of support you as a parent need, I can guide or help prepare:
- An explanation of why you’re homeschooling – answer this common question for homeschoolers
- Coursework, Extracurricular, and Summer Activities – tailor these to prepare your student for college and what they want to do in college and professionally (if they already know) as well as find resources and programs to explore and enhance passions
- College Application Documents – develop the documents required for college applications (School Profile, Transcript (with a Curriculum Details Document), and Counselor Letter of Recommendation)
- For those in New York – ensure your student will fulfill the NY State Graduation Requirements
- For those in New York – develop Quarterly and Annual Filings for your local school district which are separate from the college preparation process
What can your student expect?
Depending upon what your student needs, I can guide or help prepare:
- Resume – develop the resume and interview skills
- SAT Prep – strategically prepare for the test
- College Application Guidance – fill out the Common App / Coalition App and review all of the details to make sure everything is properly filled out
- College Application Organization – track the universal application requirements on the Common or Coalition App as well as those of individual colleges
- College Essay Topic Selection / Identification – brainstorm what topics will best highlight who you are and differentiates you from peers as well as recommend specialists if further assistance is needed
- “Why Homeschool?” Narrative – develop the narrative of why you chose to homeschool
How does it work?
I am flexible to family needs and can mentor you through the process or be more hands-on help as you develop all of the materials and processes described above based on your preferences. We will have a free initial discovery session to determine if working together is a good fit and if so what types of services you want. Since your family’s needs are unique, I typically recommend purchasing a set number of hours of services and renewing as needed.
Why me?
As someone who was a past president of a public school parent organization, a Princeton alumni interviewer, organizer of high school volunteers for STEM events, and then a homeschool parent guiding two children to college, I understand how homeschoolers measure up to other students and the unusual challenges homeschool families face. With this understanding, I will customize my services to get your student to their reach their goals.
