What do I do?
Not everyone needs months of weekly private tutoring or a standard SAT prep course. I offer SAT coaching for self-directed students who want focused help in getting that extra 150 points or reaching elite scores on the SAT. What’s different about working with me? My philosophy is that preparation for the SAT is the same as a competitive sport or academic competition – students need to peak at the right time. Rather than hours and hours of “test prep”, I work with students to design focused strategies to find their weak spots and address them, using my methodology designed to peak at test time.
What do you get?
I get students organized and maximize their efficiency by zeroing in on challenging areas, while keeping the test and their goals in perspective.
In addition to learning how to answer the different types of questions on the test, students will gain confidence working with me. In order to achieve this they will have:
- A customized plan on how to prepare for the SAT
- A spreadsheet for tracking errors
- All materials for preparation: the SAT Prep Black Book and The Official SAT Study Guide
How does it work?
Although flexible to student needs, I recommend 5 sessions to prepare for the SAT:
- Determine where a student currently stands with preparation, target score, and test date as well as create a plan of attack on how and when to prepare
- Check in to see how the student is progressing, review any difficult questions, and adjust or reaffirm the preparation plan
- Repeat of second session
- Repeat of second and third sessions (If needed, a student can request additional review sessions)
- Review progress and any remaining questions as well as strategize the best way to use the remaining time to study and final preparations for test day sometime the week before or the beginning of the week of the test.
For students who want to completely go it on their own, I highly recommend the SAT Prep Black Book. I use the book as a foundation along with a customized schedule of preparation, understanding difficult questions, organizing mistakes made on practice tests to determine areas of focus, and guidance addressing these challenging areas.
